‘Mr Wolf. Mr Shark. Mr Snake. Mr Piranha. They’re bad guys, everybody knows that.’ But did you know that the Bad Guys book by Aaron Blabey has been picked up by DreamWorks Animations for a new film adaptation based on the popular series?

Etan Cohen, Israeli-American screenwriter and film director, has been set to adapt the series into a feature animated film. Better known for his work on live action comedies, Cohen was also a writer on Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.

In partnership with Foundation Media Partners, Dreamworks and Jeff Berg of Northside Services,  Blabey will co produce the movie.

The feature animated film will tell the story from the series about four “bad guys” — Mr. Wolf, Mr. Shark, Mr. Snake, and Mr. Piranha — who, after growing tired of others screaming and running away from them, decide to become a force for good despite their affinity for being bad.

The Bad Guys -Episode 1 was first published in 2016 and has sold millions of copies worldwide. No date has been confirmed as yet for the release of the movie.

Aaron Blabey has been children’s writing books when the first of his two sons was a baby. After writing Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley on a plane trip to Adelaide, it was  named 2008 Children’s Book Council of Australia’s book of the year. Blabey wrote books in conjunction with his full time role in advertising but after his 40th birthday he quit his job and moved to the Blue Mountains to try his hand at being a full time author. In 2014, Pig the Pug was born selling millions of copies globally. The success of Pig the Pug quickly transferred onto Bad Guys when it was released in 2016.
