NSW

Thirlemere Festival of Steam 3rd & 4th March 2018
The quaint village of Thirlmere awakens to the enchanting sound of the steam whistle for the annual Thirlmere Festival of Steam on the 3rd and 4th March. Celebrate the opening of the 2018 steam season with a 45-minute steam train ride along the Thirlmere Heritage Railway. This is one of the most popular train events for families every year.

Re-Opening of the Richmond Vale Railway 4th March
The Hunter Valley’s favourite railway destination, the Richmond Vale Railway Museum, is to reopen for public operations on Sunday 4 March. The museum has been closed since September 2017, following the significant damage to the site by a deliberately-lit bushfire.The museum gates will open at 9.30am on Sunday 4 March. Shuttle services will operate on the Mulbring Road branch throughout the day. Miniature train rides will also be available, the mining museum will be open, and canteen services will be available.

Steam Train Sunday Every Sunday from the 11th March
Take a 45-minute steam train ride from historic Thirlmere station to Buxton and return along the Thirlmere Heritage Railway. Enjoy plenty of time to reminisce, share your experience, take a few photos and stretch your legs. Departs Thirlmere Station.

Day Out with Thomas
Thomas and Friends return to the NSW Rail Museum for a feature packed weekend of family fun. Meet the Fat Controller as he oversees all of the exciting activities on offer!

Easter Bunny Steam Train 1st April
Visit the NSW Rail Museum on Sunday 1 April for a 45 – 50 minute steam train experience with the Easter Bunny!

Steamfest 14th & 15th April
Steamfest provides a fun and family friendly look into days gone by with a diverse program including historic steam train trips, vintage machinery displays and demonstrations, live music, interactive heritage walks and displays, vintage car display, market stalls, food stalls, kid’s activities and more.

Cronulla Electric Vintage Train Rides 15th April
The NSW Rail Museum, Sydney Trains and Historic Electric Traction are pleased to once again be operating Sydney’s vintage electric set ‘F1’ from Cronulla Station to Sutherland and return.

Circus Train 20th-22nd April
Roll up! Roll up! Enjoy all the fun of the circus at the NSW Rail Museum in the April school holidays. Enjoy quirky, interactive and fun circus performances, try your hands, arms and legs at a bunch of circus skills under the watchful eyes of professional trainers at the Circus Drop Zone.

Transport Heritage Expo 9th-11th June 2018
The NSW Rail Museum will be operating steam train rides through the city from Central this June long weekend as part of the annual Transport Heritage Expo. The award-winning Transport Heritage Expo brings Sydney’s transport history to life. Enjoy heritage train and bus rides, train displays, live music and so much more!

Easter Bunny Special at the Bellarine Railway 31st March & 1st April
Hop on board the Easter Bunny Special over the long weekend of Easter. Enjoy a 45 minute train ride, win prizes, create an Easter Bonnet at home for the Easter parade, join in on the Easter Egg hunt and have your photo taken with the Easter Bunny.

Day Out with Thomas 7th-8th April, 13th-14th October
Thomas and the Troublesome trucks will be at Queenscliff, providing unlimited truck rides all day. Meet Sir Topham Hatt and his Station Master, join in the story time sessions, visit Henry and climb up to his Drivers Cab to blow his whistle plus many more family friendly activities to try.

Puffing Billy Railway
See ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’ and ‘The Fat Controller’ at Puffing Billy’s Gembrook town station …entertainment for the entire family! You ticket includes a 20 minute return train ride from Emerald station with ‘Thomas’ and ‘Diesel’, a Thomas and The Fat Controller pantomime, Animal Nursery, Jumping Castle and plenty more to keep the kids entertained all day.

Scoresby Steamfest 10th-12th March 2018
Over the Steamfest weekend the club’s exhibits are enhanced by exhibits and displays from other clubs, individuals and community groups with complimentary interests. There will be much to see and plenty of action including; Steam Ploughing, Mobile steam engines, model railway, miniature steam train rides, Heritage Draught Horses and lots more.

Steamrail Victoria Tours
The Vintage Train© operates monthly to destinations throughout the state. It travels all over the Victorian Railways broad gauge network offering a variety of tours for all tastes, including weekend excursions to interesting and popular destinations. Family friendly tours to watch out for in 2018 include;

Mornington Railway Specials
Families are invited to the Mornington Railway throughout the year for some very special events.
Easter Bunny Sunday Trains 1st April- On Sunday 1st April, during our operations we are excited that the Easter Bunny will be at the railway. All children coming to ride on the trains for the day will receive a treat from our special guest and the assistants. Along with activities for children to enjoy. EGG Decorating, Jumping Castle, Model Train Display.

Train & Hobby Show 10th-12th March
Sandown Racecourse
The Train and Hobby Show at Sandown is in its 11th year in Victoria and has grown to be one of the largest model hobby shows in Australia. With thousands of people attending every year to see the biggest and the best of what each hobby has to offer. There is plenty to do and see: train rides, LEGO, radio controlled car and plane races, interactive displays, club information stands and colouring in pages just to name a few.

Day Out With Thomas 30th June-15th July
Calling all Thomas the Tank Engine fans! You’re invited to a Day out with Thomas at the Workshops Rail Museum this winter. Get hands on with lots of Thomas craft, meet the Fat Controller, Let off steam in the indoor adventure playground, take a miniature train ride around the Museum grounds plus lots more to keep the Thomas fans young and old entertained. One of the most popular train events in Brisbane!

Grandchester Express 7th July, 6th October 2018
Get on-board this return steam train journey to historic Grandchester station. Add Museum entry and make a whole day out. During this 2.5 hour return trip, passengers have the option to disembark at Grandchester station and explore the grounds, watch the locomotive be uncoupled from its train and ran around for its return trip.

The Semaphore to Fort Glanville Tourist Railway
National Railway Museum
Take a magical 30 minute four kilometre return journey, behind our steam engine “Bill” while it travels along the dunes from Semaphore Jetty to Fort Glanville and return.

Steamranger Heritage Railway
SteamRanger Heritage Railway operates a number of different heritage steam and diesel hauled tourist trains between Mt Barker in the Adelaide Hills, up over the crest of the southern Mt Lofty Ranges, down to Strathalbyn and on through the coastal holiday towns of Goolwa and Port Elliot to the tourist resort town of Victor Harbor.

Ashley and his friends have returned to the rails of Whiteman Park! Join his friends of Bennett Brook Railway who will haul trains all day for the Train Controller.

The Bennett Brook Railway operates steam and diesel trains over 6 kilometres of 610mm gauge track through Whiteman Park’s banksia woodlands.

Steam Rangers May-October
Hotham Valley Railway WA
Upon departing Dwellingup the pace is leisurely as the train rolls along westward, down to Isandra Siding, 14kms away. Once there, the locomotive will move to the opposite end of the train during the 30 minute stopover and make ready for the return.
