Award-winning writer and artist Lauren Child makes her first appearance at Sydney Writers’ Festival appearing at School Days events as well as the family day on the last day of the festival.
Best known for her Charlie and Lola picture books, Lauren Child kicked off her writing career in 1999 publishing two books I Want a Pet! and Clarice Bean, That’s Me. Charlie and Lola picture books were first introduced to pre-schoolers in 2000 going on to become a successful international TV series.
The Clarice Bean series sees the main character Clarice facing challenges navigating the complex ethical and social questions children deal with at school and at home.
In 2009 Lauren signed a new six-book deal with HarperCollins for the release of her “Ruby Redfort” series, a character Clarice Bean fans would be familiar with as she features in the Clarice Bean series as Clarice’s favourite literary character. An additional six Ruby Redfort books have been released since Ruby Redfort, Look Into My Eyes was first published in 2011.
Lauren Child has also received the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal and been awarded an MBE for Services to Literature.
On Family Day, 28th May at the Sydney Writers Festival, Lauren cracks the code on her artistic style and quirky characters, including Clarice Bean, Ruby Redfort, and Charlie and Lola.
