The school holidays are here and that doesn’t always mean paid activities! We have found some of the best cheap and free school holiday activities happening in Newcastle this winter!

  • Roll up roll up! Your invited to Pacific Park for some fun school holiday activities at the FREE Circus Workshop on the 12th & 13th July! With face painting, balloon animals, stilt walkers and professional aerialist performances, there’ll be circus fun for everyone!– FREE
  • Step back in time at the Hunter Wetlands these school holidays with Evolving Wetlands, an interactive exhibition showcasing a unique collection of dinosaur fossils and replicas with a focus on the wetlands environment.- CHEAP
  • Head to the Newcastle Museum and  revisit some of the all-time favourite experiments from the Museum Science Shows. Be amazed by tough balloons and singing glasses. See what happens to energy as balls bounce and collide. Get caught out by the friction balls. -FREE

  • Be inspired by the exhibition PATRICIA WILSON ADAMS: stain me with the intensity of black and create your own mixed media block-printed sculpture at the Newcastle Art Gallery these school holidays. Starting with a wooden block and foam shapes, children will print their own designs onto cardboard and then use cardboard, found items and natural elements to develop a sculptural form.-CHEAP
  • Get crafty at Blackbutt Reserve these school holidays as you create a clay creature to take home.– CHEAP
  • Get to know some of Blackbutt’s reptile residents during a reptile show in the Wildlife Arena. Blackbutt’s expert team will allow attendees to meet, learn about, and at times interact with, their favourite scaly, slimey friends!   • Book lovers are invited to Harry Hartog Greenhills and Kotara these school holidays for some great writing workshops including Bold, Brave and Fearless, Spooky Writers room, and Jurassic Creative Writing Workshop. -CHEAP
  • Head to your local APPLE store for fun and free school holiday activities including Making Movies together and the Sphero Maze Challenge.– FREE
  • Pull up a bean bag in the Maitland Gaol’s auditorium for a screening of Oddball and Flushed Away at the bean bag cinema these school holidays.     – CHEAP
  • Discover the magical wonders of Razzamatazz at the MRAG and dress up as your favorite art work, experiment with collage and texture, or create our own clay fun park.– CHEAP
  • It’s Whale Watching season! Head to the coast with your binoculars and catch the whales as they migrate up the coast to warmer waters.– FREE
