The school holidays are here and that doesn’t always mean paid activities! We have found some of the best Free school holiday activities happening in Sydney this winter!

  • There’s so many school holiday activities happening at the State Library of NSW this July. Be inspired by the extraordinary artworks of celebrated author/illustrator Brownyn Bancroft and create a frame worthy masterpiece of your own, book a free kids tour, drop in at the activity centre for some fun crafts to celebrate the 2018 NAIDOC Week theme or catch a performance of  The Wonderful World of Wilby the Bell Shakespeare company.-FREE
  • Get creative and head to the Art Gallery of NSW for their FREE drop in a make sessions. Join artist Jason Phu, and create a dynamic flip book inspired by his drawings and pictograms or draw inspiration from the Gallery’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander collection to celebrate NAIDOC Week 2018.-FREE
  • To celebrate the opening of the exhibition Playback: Dobell Australian Drawing Biennial 2018, The Art Gallery of NSW are screening a mini series of Australian animation classics including Abra cadabra (3D) and Happy Feet.-FREE
  • As part of the opening weekend of Mawurndjul’s survey exhibition, John Mawurndjul: I am the old and the new at the MCA meet musical sensations Microwave Jenny, learn to count in Kuninjku, then grab a cushion and settle in for a story in the galleries.-FREE
  • Celebrate NAIDOC Week at Rouse Hill House & Farm with Darug Elders and the local community, at this event held in partnership with Muru Mittigar Aboriginal Cultural and Education Centre. -FREE
  • Who is the Bower-Bird trying to impress? What animal joins a mother’s group? Why do bees have smelly feet? Find out the answers to these questions and many more in this fun and interactive theatre adventure at the Royal Botanic Gardens. -CHEAP

  • Fratelli Fresh at Darling Harbour may be famous for its food, but these school holidays it also brings free face painting, balloon making, arts & crafts, reptile shows, gelato decorating, magic and of course, pizza making to all.-FREE
  • Bring the family to the Village Green at Darling Quarter for the closest winter experience Sydney can provide as you experience the amazing sensation of being surrounded by fluffy, white ‘snow’ in the Giant Snow Pit.-FREE
  • The Chinese Gardens are the place to be these holidays for FREE fun! Drop into the gardens between 11-1pm to learn the basics of sketching with a leading local artist, try your hand at the traditional Chinese art of paper cutting or explore the gardens and learn about the history of these special plants before creating a crafty story using vegetables and plants. -FREE
  • Head to Cockle Bay these holidays for Giant Lawn Games, Free Face Painting, Superhero Selfie Station and a FREE circus workshop! -FREE
  • Get inventive at the Powerhouse Museum drop-in space where you can design, make and rework your very own creations or get hands on and make your design come to life with our supply of tools, fabrics and paper.  -CHEAP
  • Create your own woven star constellation, make your own sun dial, explore how to record weather and learn about the cosmos with activities running daily across the school holidays at the Sydney Observatory. -FREE
  • Fly By Fun’s Slime Making Workshop, and Calico Bag Painting Workshop are loads of fun and will keep your kids engaged and entertained at Paddy’s Markets these school holidays.           -CHEAP
  • During NAIDOC and school holidays, explore Aboriginal culture through play and hands-on activities, including making a rock engraving to take home at The Australian Museum.– CHEAP
  • Children are invited to experience the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural practice of weaving in this free craft workshop at the Rocks Discovery Museum. Enjoy weaving in groups, ‘yarning’, listening and sharing stories.-FREE
  • In a FREE interactive workshop at Flower Power Garden Centres, kids will learn all about worms and the amazing things they do for the garden. They’ll also enjoy getting their hands dirty during a potting exercise where they’ll plant their own seedling to take home and care for. -FREE
  • Head out to Sydney Olympic Park for a range of free activities including; Waterbirds Origami, Riverside Birdlife, Pharaoh Fun with King Tut,  and Sports Star and Dance Star. -FREE
  • Parliament House in Sydney are holding a special day to celebrate NAIDOC week on the 10th July. From 10 am – 2 pm activities for the public will be available including: Didge & Dance, Aboriginal Art & Crafts, Wiradjuri Language Workshops and Storytelling. -FREE
  • Westfield Chatswood, invites you to join them in celebrating NAIDOC Week with school holidays activities that the whole family will enjoy including; Children’s Indigenous Storytelling, and Beatty Clan Crew Dance Workshops.- FREE
  • In the spirit of reducing waste, MUJI Chastwood is holding a Kid’s Workshop where kids can decorate fabric My Bags to encourage taking a reusable bag with them when they go shopping with their parents. -FREE
  • Head to your local APPLE store for fun and free school holiday activities including Making Movies together and the Sphero Maze Challenge.– FREE
  • July is Harry Potter month at Dymocks Sydney!  You’re invited to brush up on your Harry Potter knowledge and dust off your favourite Harry Potter outfit because there’ll be trivia, a best dressed competition, a treasure hunt and a few other surprises.– FREE
