Newcastle Art Gallery was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Friday 11 March 1977 and was Australia’s first purpose built regional Art Gallery. Located on Laman Street opposite Civic Park, the art gallery is a perfect must visit location for families.

A family friendly location with special events planned to introduce your little ones to the wonderful world of art and creativity.

Every Saturday and Sunday, families are invited for free art and craft activities in the gallery at their ARTCART workshop. This is a FREE and drop in activity that runs between 10.30am and 12.30pm each weekend.

Occasionally the gallery holds Torchlight Tours where Gallery educators and guides turn off the main lights and host tours of the gallery and art activities all by torchlight. Contact the gallery for the next date this will occur.

School holidays are also filled with plenty of wonderful art workshops at the gallery and are always very affordable. The workshops usually revolve around the current exhibition in the gallery at the time.
