Blackbutt Reserve is the number one reserve in Newcastle for families occupying over 182 hectares of natural bushland.
Families can enjoy nature trails, wildlife exhibits, children’s playgrounds and animal encounters. Walk the boardwalk (wheel chair and pram friendly) to view the animal enclosures that house a variety of bird species, reptiles, wombats and the popular koala enclosure.
Blackbutt Reserve has 9 walking trails for all different ability levels incorporating magnificent scenery and natural features through varying forest types and along creeks. The nature trails range from the Blueberry Ash walk at 0.8kms on difficult terrain to the Tall Trees walk at 2.6kms on easy terrain.
Get up close to the animals with a public or private wildlife encounter.
The new renovations have recently been completed at Richley Reserve which includes new footpaths, shelters, bbq areas and green space, all connected to the playground inspired by the natural bushland.
