With the Spring School Holidays just around the corner, there are some great family movies due to be released. One of the most anticipated of these is Warner Animations new star-studded comedy musical, Smallfoot, a twist on the Yeti legend where a group of ‘abominable snowmen’ discover the truth behind what they thought was just a myth.

The Australian Premiere at the Entertainment Quarter saw a mixed bunch of families old and young gather excitedly for the occasion, and to witness the theatre foyer transform into a winter wonderland. After some poses with Migo and Michee, two yetis voiced by Chanum Tating and Zendaya, we were treated to snowcones in suitably Himalayan-inspired flavours, before getting to create our very own ‘snow angel’ which were converted into animated gifs and leaving everybody covered in their own dusting of snow.

The main event was of course the movie itself, a fast-paced funny and at times poignant tale of humans and yetis who each thought the other was just a myth and the story of what happened when they came face-to-face. The animation was impressive, the characters hilarious, with voice actors including Lebron James, James Corden and Danny DeVito amongst others. The movie worked on two levels, as a great adventure story for the kids with plenty of laughs, but also with several references and some allegorical themes that gave pause for thought. All up, this was a great family film that will appeal to all and an assured hit from the group that previously produced the Lego Movie. Everyone left with a smile on their face, not to mention some snow in their hair!

Smallfoot is released in Australian cinemas from today just in time for the school holidays!
