An icon you’ll find in the midst of the hustle and bustle of North Terrace in the heart of the city is the South Australian Museum. There are four levels of interesting things to explore and discover, and best of all it’s FREE! You’re immediately greeted by a huge whale skeleton as your visit begins. Grab a map from the front desk and you’re off.

Browse through Aboriginal artifacts, minerals and gems, world mammals, Ancient Egypt, Pacific Cultures and the impressive Giant Squid – just to name a few. The Discovery Centre on level 1 is a great place for you to pop in with your kids for them to have a ‘hands on’ experience and have their questions answered by an expert (check the website for specific Discovery Centre opening times).

The museum café is a great place to stop with both indoor and outdoor seating available (outside there’s lovely lawn for the kids to run around on after they’ve behaved so well inside the museum!).

Before you depart, be sure to visit the museum shop for books, toys, gifts, jewellery, educational products and other unique items.
