With the weather warming up, it’s the perfect time of year to get up close and personal to the zoo animals and have your very own overnight zoo stay. Book an overnight adventure at one of the many zoos in Australia that have accommodation on site including the following;


  1. Taronga Zoo Sydney-Roar and Snore
    The Roar and Snore experience will have you waking up to the sound of the animals in amazing accommodation with spectacular views of Sydney Harbour and skyline. The tents have been purpose built with comfort in mind. This is glamping at its finest with electricity, double beds, and comfy bedding.
    At night guests will enjoy a one and a half hour night safari after a delicious buffer dinner. After a night enjoying the wonderful sounds of the zoo, guests will enjoy a continental breakfast and treated to two interactive keeper experiences.
    All bookings per tent are a minimum of two persons. The maximum capacity per tent is four persons and children must be accompanied by an adult.

2. Werribee Open Range Zoo Slumber Safari
Head out of town and have an african escape at the Werribee Open Range Zoo Slumber Safari. Slumber Safari brings together unique accommodation with a fully hosted experience including amazing close-up animal encounters, drinks and dips at sunset, a sumptuous dinner, awesome night-time activities including a night walk and toasting marshmallows around the evening campfire then a delicious supper of scones, jam and cream. In the morning you can watch the animals on the African savannah awaken and enjoy a buffet breakfast served in the Safari Dining Hut as you take in the view.
The tented lodges cater for every season with heating and cooling options and onsite ensuites.
Price: $320 per adult, $165 per child with a 10% discount for Zoo Members. Minimum fee per lodge is $640. Surcharge applies for Saturday nights from September onwards.

3. Adelaide Zoo Wild Nights
Experience the thrill of spending a family night at Adelaide Zoo and join one of their Wild Night sleepovers! Currently only available in the warmer months so now is the time to plan your visit.
The Wild Nights package includes accommodation in a two persons tent with two mattresses (you will need to bring pillows and sleeping bag), meals, exclusive animal encounter including meeting the keeper, zoo night safari tour, morning meerkat feed, complimentary Panda & Friends Behind the Scenes Animal Experience the following morning and zoo access for the remainder of the day.
Price: Two person tent (general public) $350.00. A $50 discount on a second tent booked. Two person tent (zoo members) $300

4. National Zoo & Aquarium Jamala Wildlife Lodge
Jamala Wildlife Lodge offers you the opportunity of experiencing the thrill of close encounters with some of the world’s most dangerous and endangered animals, as well as relaxing in the unique atmosphere of its three individually designed five star Accommodation hubs; Giraffe Treehouses, Jungle Bungalows and uShaka Lodge. The African inspired luxury suites lie in the heart of the National Zoo & Aquarium in Canberra and epitomize style and comfort.
The Giraffe Treehouses give you the opportunity to feed one of the resident giraffes, ‘Hummer’, from either your balcony or in his enclosure.
The Jungle Bungalows are luxurious individual suites adjoining a variety of enclosures throughout the property. A glass wall is all that will separate you from a pride of lions, cheetahs, tiger, brown bears or a Malayan sun bear!
Ushaka Lodge is a 7 room lodge with each room giving the guest an experience of a lifetime from animal encounters to rooms that looks directly into the enclosures.

5. Taronga Western Plains Zoo
You are spoilt for choice when it comes to accommodation at Taronga Western Plains Zoo. The zoo caters for all budgets and styles with three types of accommodation to choose from. Different accommodation all has different inclusions depending on where you are staying.
The Billabong Camp is situated right in the heart of the zoo which is ideal if you love the sounds of animals during the night and morning. The tents come with stretcher beds and the amenities are a short walk within the camp. The accommodation includes meals and depending on what package you choose also includes some animal encounters, sleeping bags and pillows and welcome drinks at the camp site.
The Savannah Cabins offer high quality self contained accommodation just out of the zoo grounds and sleep up to 6 people. The cabins feature two bedrooms, two bathrooms and kitchen and sofa bed. They are not onsite but only a 3 minute drive from the zoo’s entrance.
The Zoofari Lodge is the zoo’s premiere overnight experience and sleeps between 4 and 6 people depending on the lodge. This accommodation is onsite but slightly removed away from the main thoroughfare and is a but more exclusive and private. Being onsite means guests can also enjoy private viewing of the African Savannah exhibit where animals such as Giraffe, Eland, Zebra and Buffalo roam. Delicious meals are also included in the Zoofari package.

Savannah Cabins-  Accommodation only $299 or up to $398 per family with inclusions.
Zoofari Lodge:  From $279-$515 per night per adult and $159-$209 per child per night depending upon accommodation and package.
